The interns learned about interviewing techniques and put their knowledge to work in interviewing members of the community about their immigration stories.

In addition to sharing her immigration story, author Helen Thorpe described her writing process. She shared her experiences working with refugee students at South High School on her latest book, The Newcomers and worked with students on developing interview questions and how journalists can help people be comfortable in sharing their stories. |

Guest Speaker: Judy Fossum
Working with voice over talent, Judy Fossum, interns learned tips-of-the-trade on how to use their voices to help create a professional podcast. Guest Speaker: Mark Stevens Writer and podcast host, Mark Stevens discussed ways to make podcasts interesting to listeners. He also described techniques that he uses to make interviewees feel at ease and how to make a podcast sound professional even if you don't have professional equipment or a sound studio. |
